Sad Day for Beijing’s Music Scene: Peter Baird Departs

We roll tonight [We’re on tonight]
To the guitar bite
Yeah, yeah, oh

Stand up and be counted
For what you are about to receive
We are the dealers
We’ll give you everything you need
Hail hail to the good times
‘Cause rock has got the right of way
We ain’t no legend, ain’t no cause
We’re just livin’ for today

For those about to rock, we salute you

Fact: The expat life is quite transient ! “Here today, gone tomorrow” is something we live with everyday and it doesn’t get any better with time. We might get used to it or just become blase about the whole thing but there are times when it hits hard and the person leaving will leave a giant void in our life. This is such a case with Peter Baird leaving us for greener pastures! I’m not gonna go in the how or the what, you can check out Pete De Mola’s great piece over at WeLiveInBeijing.

I’ve personally known Peter long before him and I haunted the streets and music dives of Beijing, back when we roamed the streets of Small Town, Hebei. I’m gonna miss the man for many reasons and wish him the best! That said, his departure is gonna leave a mammoth-sized void in Beijing’s music scene….. I’m just really sad I’m not in Beijing right now to rock out with him one last time.

Keep on rocking brother…. you’ll be missed!

  1. Pete says:

Thanks for the plug. I actually met Peter in Handan (I lived there for three months) way back in August 2005, about two weeks after arriving in China.

    A sad day, indeed.
