Bejing Quickslants: This week’s cool live shows

It’s a quieter week than usual in Beijing and the fact that the weather is cooling down might have a lot to do with it. That said, it’s sometimes better not to have too many good choices because it makes it difficult to make up one’s mind about what to do and where to go.. so, here’s where yours truly might go spend his money this week:

Thursday October 22th:

Curtis King plays along with Red Zebra at Jianghu Bar (map). Sounds like a good chance to catch some honest to goodness Mississippi Blues and old fashioned Hoochie Coochie music. Starts at 9:30! More info here if you can get ast the bad google translation job

Children of Bodom brings their razor sharp metal to the confines of STARLIVE (map).. tickets a bit pricey for my taste but it’s definitely worth going if Metal is your thing and you’re slightly tired of canto-rock labeled “metal” like we get in Beijing every so often..

Friday October 23rd:

MIDI HEROES at 798 (map). Some of MIDI’s favorite alumni come back to celebrate their 10th anniverasry in style! If you needed a reason to venture out to 798 that doesn’t involve so-called art, this could be it. I haven’t been able to locate a schedule of performances but expect the usual suspects to be present: SUBS, Brain Failure, AK-47 etc… Note that there will also be a DJ stage but don’t let that stop you. See Here for exact directions and time.
Edit: According to The Beijinger, Friday’s lineup includes The Verse, Suffocation, Twisted Machine and Yeska!

Archenemy at the STARLIVE (map): a rare chance to see one of Rock’s sexiest lead singers! This lady (Angela Gossow) is kicking ass, taking names and I hope mine is next in line.. Price are on the steeeeep side of thing with nosebleed section at RMB280

Saturday Oct. 24th:

MIDI day 2: The lineup listed by The Beijinger is impressive! CMCB, TOOKOO, Brain Failure, Muma & Third Party, SUBS, Miserable Faith and Xie Tianxiao! Now folks, that is definitely worth going out for.. I believe (and I could be wrong) that this is the day they will deliver their award as mentioned in a previous post.

That’s it for this week! It’s slim pickings compared to previous weeks but a lot of other shows are mostly hit or miss with more miss than hit 😉
