Quickslants: a quiet weekend in ol’ Beijing
BD picked a good time to head off on holiday, this weekend is kinda light on stand-out shows! And just when I was saying we have too many shows on in this city! Here’s a few that I recommend heading along to this weekend.
Thursday July 7th:
If you missed him last thursday, then you’re in luck because he’s playing again this week! Gangzi always puts on a great show, I haven’t seen him since JUE Festival, so I’m looking forward to seeing him again.
Friday July 8th:
The Tree @ Mao
So many bands are releasing albums and going on tour this year! Hangzhou duo the Tree make it to the ‘jing tonite with their new album. I’ve never heard of them before, but I’m liking what I hear on their douban.
LiDong & special guest @ 2 Kolegas
This is my pick of the week! We love LiDong’s Ningxia folk here at Daze Central – but tonight they are joined by a very special guest, Zhao Yiran. I’ve only seen him play once since I’ve been in Beijing and it was amazing! You can check out BD’s review of that show here
Pangbianr Rock night @ Old What? Bar
Our friends over at Pangbianr are organizing some great shows, if you’re a fan of experimental music you wont want to miss this one. It’s also gig of the week over at www.beijinggigguide.com.
Saturday July 9th:
Michael Dallin Project @ JiangJinJiu:
Those of you who came to dazeFEAST were lucky enough to get to hear Michael playing with Marie-Claude out on the lawn. He has his hand in a few different projects, his rock band Vital Times are also playing Friday at D22.
** Late update! **
Night of Shadows Rock Music festival @ Mako
Ooops, nearly missed this one! Mako has 20 metal bands playing from 1.30pm including Raging Mob, Dark Haze & Joker. If BD was in town, you know this is where he would be!
So that’s it folks! Not a lot of big shows, but there’s still things going on around the city. It may be a good chance to pop into D22, Mao or one of the smaller venues and take a chance on a band you haven’t heard of before.
