Quickslants: Jurat, PiL, XTX, Yangjima for a Loaded End of Week

There’s a monster saturday ahead folks with some beautiful shows planned all around Beijing and the choices are really hard… What’s a man to do if he wants to check out 3 shows happening at the same time on different sides of town? From new releases to impact gigs, get ready for it.

Jurat TT @ Yugong Yishan
The new album is being dubbed as dark psychedelic faire tale folk and i guess my answer to that is: sure, why not? I like Juratt and his style is quite unique in Beijing.. I’ve listened to the new record for a bit lat week and some parts are indeed interesting. As if the release itself was not enough, Yangjima will be be on hand as a support act. Not a bad way to spend a thursday.

Yangjima @ Mako
How about this folks? a double appearance for a venue the same day and for an artist 2 days in a row: How about an early dose of beautifully soothing harmonies courstesy of Yingema and friends at 1:00 pm at Mako? yeah, a 1pm gig on a saturday.. that is potentially a new way to do gigs.. really.
Sorry.. this one is on saturday.

Rock You @ 2 Kolegas
Devils at the Crossroad, Nine Treasures and Incisors head over to the drive-in for a rock n roll fuelled night. Nine treasure is slowly but steadily making their name stand out and Devils should have a whole lotta new things up their sleeves as they are warming up for a new album release. I can’t remember much about incisor but 2 out of 3 ain’t bad already.

Lao Liu & Sand @ Mako
It’s a spring themed gig down in shuangjing as one Beijing’s oldest reigning blues-ter brings out the guitars and rips through some soulful bluesy rhythms. Having only seen him around small venues, i’m curious about how he would handle the 1200 seater and its cavernous sound system.

Graveworm @ Yugong
Italian Dark metal descends on Zhangzhizhonglu as they make their China debut.. They are back—and almost back to the roots with their new album ”Fragments of Death” recorded last year. On presage at 180, that could be considered a decent ticket for the evening.

PiL @ Yugong Yishan
what can i say? Johnny Rotten aka John Lydon aka that ugly dude from the Sex Pistols is descending on Beijing along with his band, Public Image Limited. Check out this interview on the Beijinger for some fun remarks and take your queue to go and catch one of the last icons of his era do what they do best on stage at yugong yishan.

XTX @ Workers’ Gym
I think i’ve spoken enough about XTX and why you should absolutely see him live at least once in your yaogun lifetime. His new album is unleashed and he is ready to rock the shit out of Beijing with a big production and new/old classics. This is a weird show capped at 3000 tickets and trust me, they are hard to come by right now. I’m no sure what Modern Sky is doing but it’s pissing me enough that i am considering not going at all.

Folk Night @ Mako
Mako is at it again with one hell of a folk lineup: Wang Fan Rui, chuanzi, ma tiao, toy captain and a few more are all scheduled to perform that evening so expect a few surprises with duets, jam sessions and more. This is a pretty decent planning for them as it doesn’t interfere with either of the big two by presenting a whole other genre.

Of course, plenty of other music happening in town folks from jianghu to blue stream and even a Misandao at Old What. You can go wrong, as long as you go rocking!
