Kashgar provincial restaurant revisited: One Xinjiang to Rule them all

By Beijing Daze in Belly Ties

This past saturday, after failing to locate the no-longer-there Dunhuang Shifu, I rerouted the troops towards the Kashgar Representative Office Restaurant 喀什饭庄 (map) as they had never been there. That was all the excuse I needed to get my hands on some Chuan’r, dapanji and other mouth watering goodies.

The restaurant was busier than [...]

Getting lost for Dunhuang Shifu or where the hell is the Gansu Provincial Restaurant

By Beijing Daze in Belly Ties

I love my provincial restaurants and keep trying to get out and discover them as much as possible and with the cold that is hitting Beijing this winter, I figured some steaming hot Lanzhou noodles would be exactly what the doctor ordered.
I rallied the troops and plans were made to hit the less-traveled roads of [...]

Of Spice & Pain: a Trip to Chuan Ban, the Sichuan Provincial restaurant!

By Beijing Daze in Belly Ties

Sometime ago, I learned that every province in China had a representative office and restaurant in Beijing where one could go and sample authentic cuisine from the region. The most famous of these was Chuan Ban, the Sichuan Provincial restaurant(map). Having had my share of Sichuan food in various establishments, I was more curious about [...]

By Beijing Daze in Belly Ties

I have been having many conversation lately about the better places to eat this kind of food or the better places to eat that kind of food in Beijing and Yunnan cuisine gets brought up quite a bit. My appreciation for all things Xinjiang and especially the cuisine is quite well documented on this blog as well as other places in the wild wild web and I never turn down an opportunity to stuff my face with sizzling roasted chuan’r or hand pulled noodles. And there are plenty of places to do that [...]

Hidden corners: Changzhou restaurant in Beijing

By Beijing Daze in Belly Ties

now Ladies and Gentlemen, after a few musical interruptions, we go back to our regular food programming…. in other words, I’m still eating food and loving it!!
I love provincial restaurants as they bring an air of authenticity to Beijing’s culinary scene! That said, I wish they was an easier way to keep track of [...]

guangxi provincial restaurant: an intimate obscure affair

By Beijing Daze in Belly Ties

When I think of provincial restaurants in Beijing, it conjures images of the opulent xinjiang-nese, hugely popular Sichuanese or the amazingly tropical Yunnanese (that I wrote about a while back). These restaurants stand out one way or another in terms of decoration, staff and atmosphere. The Guangxi Provincial restaurant in Beijing (广西省驻京办餐厅) kinda took [...]

Welcome to the jungle, we got all the Yunnan mint you need

By Beijing Daze in Belly Ties

I discovered Yunteng Shifu as part of a Friday dinner series to visit all the Provincial restaurants in Beijing. Despite being lost in the shadow cast by the Sichuan and Xinjiang provincial restaurants, Yunteng Shifu (云腾宾馆食府), the Yunnan provincial restaurant is one of the better, albeit hidden, dining spot in Beijing.
The cuisine is 100% genuinely [...]
