Yes, I’m a proud Beijinger and I got the blog to prove it.. that said, not everything that doesn’t come out of Beijing is bad.. And the Lions of Puxi, despite being from Shanghai, fit that category!
These cats be cool y’all!!!
They’re so cool that i don’t hold shanghai against them! They’re so cool that a very good friend of mine, inherently prejudiced against anything French, says they’re good!
I managed to catch then last time they were in Beijing at their Gingko show and now they’re back for a full extravaganza at Yugong Yishan on Saturday July 4th. Yes, July 4th…. so if you’re not much into the celebratory nature of that date for whatever reason, or if you just value a pretty darn good live show at Beijing’s live music mecca, then you know what you should do.
I’m not sure what to say about the band as they speak for themselves usually.. these cats are funny and have the best adaptation of a Sting song that I ever heard:
What can I say about Yugong Yishan that hasn’t been said yet? The Place is a mecca of live music in Beijing! This being their 3rd incarnation in the city, they’re like the phoenix constantly reborn from its ashes!
The place is a multiple-times winner of Best live music award from thebeijinger, cityweekend and timeout…. deservedly so! The owners paved the long way for many of this city’s fine (and not so fine) acts regardless of Genre or origin. Tonight can be a Heavy Metal show and tomorrow a Richard Clayderman cover band…. it’s so schyzophrenic that the adjective “schyzophrenic” feels overwhelmed when used side by side with “Yugong Yishan”.
