Goodspeed You! Black Emperor in Beijing

yeah, you’re reading right. ‘daze is writing about a post-rock band without Ruby holding a gun to my head. guess what? i’m actually also listening to it right at i type. The idea is, to be able to badmouth something, i gotta have good reasons. So to be able to consistently badmouth post-rock, i gotta give it a listen every so often.

Talking to the lovely folks from Spl-it Works earlier, a mention of the upcoming GYBE was made and i was told that its pre-sale is close to selling out but will go on until April 11th at 11:30. So, if you’re fixing to be at Tango 3rd Floor friday night shoe gazing, I highly recommend you get a good deal on it.

Here is some mandatory media release stuff that might teach you something or two:

godspeed

Known also for their film projections at live shows and their China-like stance on bootlegging, they’ve become an underground hit. And we all know that absence makes the cult following heart grow fonder.

They released their fourth studio album Allelujah! Don’t Bend! Ascend! last year and instantly gained kudos from names like Pitchfork and Stereogum. With a decade to work on it, they’ve packed all their experiences into one hour-long package, and their broad sound will fill the cavernous Tango 3/F in a way we just can’t wait to experience. Tickets are RMB300 at the door, RMB240 in advance.

And …. so what do you think of Godspeed ???? (drop the extra ‘o’ daze, althgough i’ll agree they are good)
Will you be venturing out to join us out to Tango on Friday?

These guys are rated one of the top three – with Mono & Mogwhai, who have both toured here before – and this will be their first China tour, coming after around 10 years of hibernation. If you’re not convinced check out this woozy.cn post asking some of the creme de la creme of local post rockers what they think!

Yeah, unfortunately i was pretty much stuck with the Capoeira crew 24/7. It wasn’t easy to break off at all.
