Howdy my little children of the rock n roll. Are you ready for another musical onslaught?
Because we’re looking at a busy one here yonder and there are plenty of shows going around to keep everyone entertained. The next few weeks will be brutal in terms of musical options so this is a nice warmup. Let’s kick it:
Friday Nov 22
Roots @ Mako:
Master old time fiddler Michael Ismerio is in Beijing for a weekend after a tour through Shanghai, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Xian, Xinxiang and Dali and before he goes back to the States. On Friday he, the Randy Abel Stable, the Hutong Yellow Weasels and the Confectionaires will be mixing and matching at Mako Live House from 9 pm till late, ending with a giant square dance. Tickets are 50 yuan at the door.
Lidong @ Jianghu
The Ningxia folksters return to Beijing after a few months away touring the rest of the country. This is gonna be one of those chilled hutong evening with good tunes and good folks. The band is sharp and will see Zhang Qian filling in on drums for Liu Miao who’s overseas temporarily.
Santa Macairo Orkestar @ Temple
The French sixtet hit temple courtesy of Alliance Francaise who’s been bringing in quite a few artists lately. They play a fusion of gypsy roots hip hop going by the songs i’ve heard online. It’s quite exquisite and worth a look if you’re in the mood for something different. Between village dance and timeless folklore, SMO music smells good sweat and happy anarchy, a link between the fever tropics and the underground Carpathians Mountains! Every single gig, they deliver a unique thing which drive us deep in their own musical and visual universe.
Saturday Nov 23
Jagermesiter Rock Night @ School
Steely Heart, Candy Monster, Tookoo and the Power Powder are on hand for fun rocking times at School. This should be a nice sleeper hit show with bands that have been making the rounds for quite some time now.
The Faceless @ yugong yishan
The LA based progressive rockers are descending upon Beijing bringing in the heavy beats. They’re keeping up with the multitude of heavy bands that are hitting the capital lately courtesy of Guitar China.
Buyi @ Jianghu
well.. two nights of Ningxia in a row at Jianghu. Not Bad… If you read this blog, Buyi doesn’t need an introduction. If you don’t, then get your rear end over to Jianghu for one of the hardest working bands in the business.
Sunday Nov 23
Quark @ XP
Xi’an’s Quark visit Beijing tonight as part of XP’s ‘unknown artsts’ series of shows. It’s a good way to chill on a sunday.
