Hell Yeah: Beijing’s RUSTIC unanimously wins GBOB 2009
I woke up this morning to the most incredible news yet: Beijing’s own RUSTIC (see my last write up about them) have won Global Battle of the Bands in London against finalists from 19 other countries! Hell Yeah!!! Pardon me while I have a gigantic grin on my face about this one!
I honestly did not give the lads a chance in Hell to win or even place but that is amazing amazing news! Rustic, much like many mainland bands, had no interest in entering the competition as there was a fee associated with it. They were pushed in kicking and screaming by a friend of mine and they rocked the joint!
Somewhere in Hebei, 3 mothers are proud!!!
Here is the announcement on GBOB’s website: http://www.gbob.com/news/?1=
Thanks for the blog posting!!
The fee was really small to sign up (50Rmb/person) and Rustic won a Gibson guitar, free trips to Hong Kong and London (with free accommodation) plus extra performances in Hong Kong and England. Pretty good return of investment. Everyone working on GBOB CHINA are musicians and we believe in it and the power of spreading the original music message to the world. If there are better bands than Rustic in China, China should win the world final every year (as long as the better bands sign up!!!) 🙂
Does anybody have links for Rustic’s music? If they’ve recorded anything at all (for demo purposes, even) I’d love to give these guys a listen!
Hey Gavin,
you can hear samples of Rustic’s music over at http://blogs.myspace.com/rusticpunk
