chunjie minislants: Bertie Higgins and Redneck Project provide entertainment
As you might have noticed, Beijing has gone into hibernation for this week. Live music is far and in between so maybe it’s time to try out different things to get your fix.
Québec Redneck Bluegrass Project @ 2 Kolegas:
Who said things shut down at the drive in? These multiethnic laowais residing in Kunming have made the trek to the northern capital and will be hollering, stomping, banjo-ing and fiddling on the stage of two Kolegas tonight ( February 1st). Originally, the Redbucks were supposed to be part of the bill but the untimely departure of Uncle Luke has put them in a state of semi-coma. Still this is probably the last show of the lunar year anywhere and it should be fun. Expect a gigantic jam session to go well into the end of the night. See ya there. You should also check out their interview over at pangbianr.com
Bertie Higgins @ the Renaissance Hotel:
What? yes, Bertie Higgins, of the famed “Casablanca” song you hear in every KTV in China himself is the resident act at the Renaissance’s D bar, not to be confused with D lounge. Bertie is an old time crooner that is sure to woo you away with his oldies but goodies. I’m actually not much for hotel acts but this one that i will gladly go and check out. He is apparently the resident act there until March 12th. so why don’t ya head over there and hear about how “a kiss is still a kiss in Casablanca”
other than that, stay good folks, get some rest and be ready for a massive musical February/march coming up.
