Beijing Live Music Quickslants: Of Marley, Eisenman and Shredders union
Beijing is slowly waking up from its spring festival-induced hibernation with some decent shows popping up left and right. While the bulk of places is still just getting over their jiaozi intake, Mao Live and Yugong Yishan have had a couple of coffees already and are set to go:
Thursday Friday February 11th:
(thanks Ruby)
Bob Marley Tribute @ Mao Live:
Dude, Binkabi and O.N.E Band are set to go jamming by Gulou in a bid to pay tribute to the original rastaman. I’m not sure if they’re gonna stick to the original sounds or give them more of a punk/ska feel but it should be a cool little party either ways. It’s also one of the few shows in town so if you need your fix of music, that’s where you wanna be. Meiwenti Sounds is also scheduled to have a bit of a DJ set.
Saturday February 12th:
Erez Eisenman @ Yugong Yishan:
He’s only been around Beijing for a few months but his name is one of those that just keeps popping up on bills all over the place. Acoustic folk rock with harmonica flavors… I haven’t personally seen him live yet but a few of those that did say he’s worth the admission ticket. Borneo handles opening duties.
Sunday February 13th:
All Guitar Stars Party @ Yugong Yishan:
some of China’s better shredders will be on hand for what could be the show of the week. The names being thrown around are no less than Web Lin (ZiYue Band), Chen Lei ( Tang Dynasty), Lao Si, etc….
These folks will compete in traditional shredding and more elaborate innovative styles. Believe me you when i say some of these folks are quite good at what they do.
No a bad start to the year of the rabbit with a few cool shows. Next week will have some gems with AIS, reTROS and others headlining various gigs.
