Quickslants: Bluegrass, Conspiracy Redux and chillaxing
wow.. I can’t remember being so underwhelmed by a weekend’s music like this one. Honestly, there isn’t really much to be excited or confused about…so this quickslants are more like shortslants actually!
Friday June 3:
The choices really are between Die Die Die @ D-22 ( or a chilled folky night with Mademoiselle, Zhang Si An and Li Dong at 2 Kolegas. . Other than yugong, every place has shows scheduled but nothing out of this world. With all due respect to Die Die Die, even my kiwi buddies that are into music have never heard of them. If someone has another take, please do comment!
Saturday, June 4th
This is a little better: Brain Failure at jiangjinjiu which will pack the place to the brim and the circus that is Pet Conspiracy relocated to Tango. Staying in the Gulou area, a little bluegrass courtesy of the Randy Abel Stable at Hot Cat Club might be cool.
Brain Failure is gonna get that place jam packed, probably the same way Ma Tiao or Miserable Faith did it. Pet Conspiracy will look to shock and entertain.
Sure, you have Kama “Festival” taking place in the Olympic green but I’m really not feeling it. Could be worth checking out on sunday just for the heck of it but as I said…. underwhelming! Alex, over at Beijinggigguide.com has the whole lineup
To be fair, it’s still decent packages and good options available.. I might just need a little break from shows so that i don’t feel so jaded!
In regards to Die!Die!Die!, these guys are one of the best bands to come out of Australasia in the last decade. I saw them back in brisbane a few years ago and they were excellent live.
Also they toured with the Pixies. Your kiwi bros might have heard of them 😉 Definitely check em out

You have OTHER Kiwi friends?!
I’ve never seen them live, but I’ve heard their shows are infamous back home so I’ll be using one of my twice annual trips out to Wu this Friday!
I recall you saying otherwise :p
that’s my story and i’m sticking to it
reports back on this unheard of band from New Zealand please….
